Plastic recycler Circulus Holdings has received a letter of nonobjection from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, clearing the way for the company to start selling 100 percent post-consumer resin from the company's Oklahoma location for direct food contact.
The letter covers the output of recycled low density polyethylene from the company's facility in Ardmore, Okla. Circulus previously received a letter of nonobjection for its Riverbank, Calif., recycling facility.
FDA does not approve particular recycled resins for food contact per se, but instead issues nonobjection letters that essentially clears the way for such use.
"The FDA granting our second LNO is an important milestone for Circulus as it will strengthen our ability to produce resins for a wide variety of consumer-facing products and packaging," CEO Mike Dulin said in a statement.
