Cobots Inc. is a new stand-alone company based in Mississauga, Ontario, that specializes in automation using collaborative robots (cobots) for small- and medium-sized packaging processors.
A sister company of Proco Machinery Inc., which manufacturer automation systems for blow molding, Cobots Inc. is targeting a range of industries, including plastics and pharmaceuticals, with products that assist human workers with material handling, process assembly, quality inspection and palletizing.
The goal is to redefine the way industries operate, according to Cobots Director John McCormick.
"We are dedicated to empowering businesses with innovative automation technologies that streamline processes, improve efficiency and elevate workplace safety," McCormick said in a news release. "Our team is passionate about delivering tailored automation solutions that drive sustainable growth and success for our clients."
Cobot technology is affordable and adaptable so manufacturers are eager to adopt it, McCormick also said.
He expects huge growth in the next few years thanks to cobots' compactness and ability to handle short runs and repetitive jobs.
"Collaborative robotic systems are seeing strong growth in the blow molding industry due to the need for greater efficiency and automation," McCormick said. "These systems are being designed in such a way that they complement the production line and provide simplified operation, a smaller footprint and enhanced efficiencies."
Robots reduce the handling of containers and offer a return on investment of less than a year — often with a two- to eight-month payback period, McCormick said.
The technology can be easily redeployed with minimal set-up time or need to change the production layout, which supports agile manufacturing processes, increases productivity and reduces injury risks.
Safety features immediately stop motion when contact is made with a person or object, which means no enhanced safety components associated with industrial robots are needed, the release also says.
