Fairlawn, Ohio — Continental A.G.'s Contitech unit is out with what the company calls an "eco-friendly" garden hose that utilizes recycled materials.
The EcoLite thermoplastic vulcanizate hose also is 50 percent lighter than traditional water hoses, the company said.
"With this hose and all of our products today and tomorrow, Continental is fully committed to the Paris climate agreement, and as such, have set ourselves the target of becoming completely carbon-neutral in our operational processes and value chains by 2050," Andreas Gerstenberger, head of Continental's Industrial Fluid Solutions business unit, said in a statement. "We see the achievement of this target as a key requirement for the corporation's future viability."
EcoLite TPV was designed in Fairlawn and is produced at its factory in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Continental said.
"The hose is an extension of our focus on recyclables, and yet it gives the same premium performance, but it is considerably lighter," said Randy Kish, marketing manager for Continental's Industrial Fluid solutions unit. "This is all a part of our goal to increase the waste recycling rate to 95 percent by 2030."
The hose comes in a 50-foot length with 5/8-inch diameter.
