Businesses owned by GPD Companies Inc. have been active in the materials market this month.
GPD unit Distrupol, a leading European resin distributor, has acquired Oy Baritec AB of Finland for an undisclosed price. Oy Baritec is a distributor of resins, additives, adhesives and color concentrates.
Oy Baritec was founded in 1994 and sells into Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The firm "has excelled at cooperating closely with customers and principals to provide innovative solutions," Distrupol Managing Director Richard Orme said in a news release.
GPD CEO Paul Tayler added that the acquisition of Baritec "further extends the presence of GPD and continues the execution of our growth strategy."
Antti Puotila, Baritec primary owner and chairman, said in the release that Distrupol's "values and core beliefs are consistent with ours at Baritec."
Nexeo Plastics, another GPD unit that ranks as one of North America's largest resin distributors, also recently opened a new distribution facility in Costa Rica to better serve customers in Central America.
The warehouse and delivery network are located in the Coyol area near San José and are expected to be operational next month, officials said in a news release. The new facility "is part of our effort to provide our customers in the region with better service, more products, and innovative solutions," Chief Commercial Officer Jeff Collier added. "It will also contribute to our expansion efforts in the health care market."
The Woodlands, Texas-based GPD is a holding company formed by investment firm One Rock Capital Partners LLC of Los Angeles and New York. One Rock has owned a majority stake in Nexeo since 2019. In the first half of 2021, GPD made three deals, acquiring Surrey, England-based Distrupol, Italian resin distributor and compounder Nevicolor SpA and Danish resin distributor Lautrup Chemicals A/S.
Earlier this month, One Rock acquired thermoset materials maker Prefere Resins for an undisclosed price. Prefere is a global producer of phenolic, urea and melamine resins based in Erkner, Germany.
