Polyester film supplier Evertis Ibérica SA has opened a new plant in Monterrey, Mexico.
The firm hosted a grand opening event at the site on Dec. 13. The event was attended by Madalena Matos Gil, whose family owns Portalegre, Portugal-based Evertis.
The plant began production earlier in 2022. Evertis has operated in Mexico for more than 20 years. In a news release, officials said that the firm "chose to invest in this new manufacturing site to enhance its strong leadership position in Mexico and growing presence in the U.S. and Canada."
The Monterrey plant is well positioned to support strong growth in high barrier materials, they added. Introduction of new products also will allow Evertis to enter new end use segments such as medical and pharmaceutical packaging.
The new plant has an annual capacity of almost 50 million pounds and will be expanded to almost 80 million pounds.
Evertis also operates plants in Portugal, Brazil and Italy. The firm is owned by Portuguese investment firm IMG Group, which also owns specialty PET resin maker Selenis.
