Formosa Plastics Corp. USA has announced "a major expansion" of its PVC resin plant in Baton Rouge, La.
No capacity details were included in a news release from Livingston, N.J.-based Formosa.
Officials said in the release that "this substantial investment will significantly boost our facility's capacity, allowing us to better meet the growing demands of our customers."
They added that the expansion "will enable us to handle larger production volumes and manage peak demand periods more efficiently" and that it "will create numerous employment opportunities in the area, from skilled technical positions to support roles."
In January, a Louisiana state appeals court ruled that Formosa could move ahead with key permits for a $9.4 billion resin complex planned for St. James Parish. The decision favoring the Sunshine Project — as the complex is named — in St. James Parish still requires a federal permit that local groups are contesting.
Formosa is a major supplier of polyethylene, PVC and polypropylene resins. The firm is a unit of Formosa Group of Taiwan.
