Formosa Plastics Corp. USA is opening a new polypropylene resin production unit in Point Comfort, Texas.
Officials with Formosa in Livingston, N.J., said that the new line "marks a significant leap forward in our commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction."
The new line has annual production capacity of 550 million pounds. It can make a full grade slate of PP resins, including homopolymer, random copolymer and impact copolymer. A side feeder on the line will allow for the addition of up to 20 percent recycled content and impact modifiers.
Officials said that mechanical work on the new line will be complete by the end of May, with a commission date in the third quarter of 2024. They added that the new line is the largest horizontal PP reactor in North America.
Formosa is a major supplier of PE, PVC and polypropylene resins. The firm is a unit of Formosa Group of Taiwan.
