Kala Packaging LLC, a Orem, Utah-based packaging converter, has a new private equity owner.
Virginia Beach, Va.-based Fortis Solutions Group LLC announced Dec. 10 that it had purchased Kala. Terms were not disclosed. Fortis Solutions is owned by San Francisco investment firm Main Post Partners LP.
Kala, which founded in 2002 as Flexible Technologies, prints pressure-sensitive labels and flexible packaging using digital presses and flexographic technology. The company specializes in quick-turn labels and pouches.
Fortis Solutions has 850 employees and manufacturing operations in Virginia Beach; Austin, Texas; Catoosa, Okla.; Ellington, Conn.; Flowery Branch, Ga.; Fort Worth, Texas; High Point, N.C.; Kansas City; Lewisville, Texas; Memphis, Tenn.; Merced, Calif.; West Chester, Ohio, and Wixom, Mich.
Kala was founded by Maui Chai and serves the food and beverage, health and beauty and nutraceutical end-markets.
"With its fleet of digital presses and top tier flexographic printing technology, Maui Chai and the Kala team have established a national presence in the quick turn labels and flexible packaging markets," Fortis President and CEO John Wynne Jr. said in a news release.
