A maker of flame-retardant specialty chemicals is helping as the world faces the COVID-19 crisis.
Chelmsford, Mass.-based FRX Polymers Inc. said it is working with the Chinese American Association of Lexington, Mass., to purchase disposable masks that have been donated to "nursing homes and frontline medical and health organizations."
The association works to enrich and empower Chinese Americans in Lexington "through civic participation, school engagement, heritage sharing, and community service," FRX said. The group contacted suppliers of personal protection equipment in China to acquire the masks. Funding for the masks came from Lexington residents and FRX Polymers.
"We have had a front seat to the progression of COVID-19 since early January and have been looking for ways to lend a hand, and we are so fortunate to have connected with the incredibly caring and talented folks at CAAL," FRX CEO Marc Lebel said in a statement.
FRX Polymers makes halogen-free polymeric flame retardants marketed under the Nofia brand name.
Applications include automotive under-the-hood parts, cushions and gaskets for electric vehicle battery packs, noise, vibration and harshness foams for various transportation parts, and gaskets for electrical components.
Nearly 94,000 masks were purchased through the initiative.
