GHSP Inc. is relocating its global headquarters and innovation lab from Grand Haven, Mich., to a 140,000-square-foot space in Holland, Mich.
GHSP plans to move into the Holland building at the beginning of 2020, according to a company news release.
"This is another step toward our growth strategy that we established in 2018," GHSP CEO Tom Rizzi said in a statement. "We are excited for our team to make the move to the new facility in Holland. GHSP is proud to call West Michigan home, and we look forward to the continued opportunities within the markets we search."
The Holland location will house corporate operations, product development teams and a test lab. It will have about 300 employees.
Automotive suppliers Adient and Yanfeng Automotive Interiors also occupy space in the Holland building, although Yanfeng is transitioning out of that location over the next few years.
"The move of our headquarters frees up valuable office and manufacturing space in Grand Haven, which is needed for growth goals projected for the next three to five years," Pat Halloran, vice president of North American operations at GHSP, said in a statement. "Additionally, it allows the Grand Haven plant operations teams to focus on continuously improving our competitive position."
As part of the relocation, GHSP is also combining its four technology development locations in Grand Haven into a single location. This includes the consolidation of a 7,000-square-foot office in downtown Grand Haven. The company moved into that space last year to house the company's automotive and technology teams, a group of more than 20.
"There is great space specifically for the innovation team in the new Holland facility," Erin Vanderklok, a company spokeswoman, said in an email to Plastics News.
GHSP primarily serves the automotive and high-end appliance industries. The company got its start in 1924 stamping metal components. Now it makes plastic- and leather-wrapped shift knobs, shift-by-wire auto shifters, smart pumps and actuators, and electronic controls including high-resolution touch screens, among other products.
It has additional manufacturing operations in Hart, Mich., as well as facilities in Mexico, Germany, China and Japan. GHSP employs more than 2,000 and is part of JSJ Corp., a privately held collection of growth companies, including four other manufacturers.
