Orlando, Fla. — Goldenrod Corp., a manufacturer of web handling components, featured the company's latest roll and shaft handling equipment, SP1200, at NPE2024 in Orlando, a piece of equipment it says can help prevent injuries.
The machine is a pedestal-mounted pneumatically operated air shaft puller with a small footprint and extenuating arms. Operators can use the machine to support putting a shaft back into the machine.
The cantilevered arm of the SP1200 can extend 100 feet and will support an air shaft weighing 190 pounds.
It can hold any type of roll, including film, paper, foil, filter membrane and any other material that comes in a roll. The SP1200 can work with any air shafts on the market.
"Sometimes those solutions get kind of heavy to handle," said David Sullivan, vice president of sales for Beacon Falls, Conn.-based Goldenrod.
"People have to actually pull the air shaft out of that core and put it from an old roll to a new roll. Ergonomically that can run into some problems. What we need to do is come up with solutions on how to handle those heavy air shafts."
The SP1200 is for the web converting industry. Sullivan said it helps employees replace rolls without any risk of back injuries.
"There is such a big emphasis now on ergonomics and safety," Sullivan said.
Goldenrod has been making different variations of the SP1200 throughout the years, but as applications change the company works to develop new versions to support the industry. Earlier versions were all manual push pull hydraulic clamps, now versions clamp with electric motors.
