Helmet and protective equipment maker Team Wendy plans to move production lines and jobs from California to Cleveland as part of a $15 million project approved April 29, for a 10-year tax credit by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority.
The global manufacturer of head protection for the military, law enforcement, search and rescue, first responders and recreation markets will receive a 1.972 percent credit to help expand capacity at the company's Cleveland location.
The expansion project is expected to add 200 jobs, doubling the company's Cleveland workforce, and generating $15 million in new annual payroll.
The site will bring in three product lines from California and serve as “Team Wendy’s Center of Excellence in Head Protection,” according to a statement about the project.
Team Wendy president James Wilcox said the project is more than an expansion but an investment in Cleveland.
"It's about investing in the community that has been our home for years,” Wilcox said in a statement. “This expansion marks a pivotal moment for Team Wendy, and we are excited to strengthen our commitment to innovation, quality and the talented workforce of Northeast Ohio.”
Team Wendy, founded in 1997, is part of the Avon Protection plc brand group. It was named after Wendy Moore, who died from a traumatic brain injury following a ski accident.
