Herrmann Ultrasonics Inc. is adding 10,000 square feet to its North American headquarters in Bartlett, Ill.
The expansion, which is slated for completion in June 2020, will increase the company's footprint to 30,000 square feet and support future growth over the next six years. The strategy also includes more manufacturing space and bulking up its workforce.
The company declined to disclose how much it was investing in the expansion.
"We look forward to the additional space, not only to strengthen our ability to deliver high-quality ultrasonic parts on time, but in addition the increased space will allow us to expand our workforce to include more skilled, experienced team members," Uwe Peregi, Herrmann's executive vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
In addition to newly designed office space, the larger headquarters will include a new training and buyoff center for seminars and hands-on learning. It will also have a packaging and metals lab for material trials and testing.
Company spokeswoman Cassandra Emery said the Bartlett office employs 50, with additional hiring planned as part of the expansion and growth strategy.
"The expansion/remodel will take us through our planned growth — hiring additional employees yearly as needed, until 2026/2027, in everything from sales engineers, design engineers, to administration," Emery, communication and project assistant at Herrmann, said in an email to Plastics News.
Herrmann also plans to host a technology day event for customers and others once the expansion is completed. The event is scheduled for June 18-19, Emery said.
Earlier this year, in July, Herrmann opened a 2,700-square-foot technology center in Troy, Mich. The center primarily focuses on automotive applications and offers technical support to customers in the industry.
The company said the expansion of its North American headquarters — plus support from its other tech centers throughout the region and worldwide — will allow the company to sustain growing markets and demands.
Herrmann makes ultrasonic welding machines and components for the medical, automotive, consumer, electronics, battery, food, and hygiene industries. Parent company Herrmann Ultraschalltechnik GmbH & Co. KG is based in Karlsbad, Germany. Globally, it employs more than 500.
