Ka Shui International Holdings Ltd. has acquired injection molding maquiladora Avery Plastics Consulting Group Inc. of San Diego, the Hong Kong-based company announced Sept. 6.
The acquisition, financial details of which were not revealed, includes Avery affiliate Global Plastic Solutions (GPS), which runs three dozen injection molding machines with a clamping force ranging from 50-390 tons at a 92,000-square-foot facility in Tijuana, Mexico.
All GPS molding operations take place in a white room environment, the company states on its website. Martin Avery, originally from the United Kingdom, launched GPS in 1991.
"It has grown from a one-machine, one-customer shop into a large custom injection molding facility, working with many of the industry's most respected companies," the company says, adding that all molding operations at the site are conducted in a white room environment.
Yuen Fat Lee founded the Ka Shui Group in Hong Kong in 1980. On its website Ka Shui describes itself as a leading plastics injection molder and supplier of magnesium, aluminum, and zinc alloy die casting products.
"We have set up a number of production bases in Huizhou, Shenzhen, Suzhou and Wuhu in China and a sales branch in the United States."
Ka Shui said the purchase will help it "hedge risk," and called it "an important step for the group to expand its new business in America in future."
The group employs 4,000-plus and is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It reported sales of HK$1.5 billion (US$191.8 million) for the year to Dec. 31, 2022.
