Huntsman Corp. has expanded its manufacturing capabilities for end applications in paint protection film and security glazing in Ringwood, Ill.
The company has been making TPUs for protective films since the 1970s. In the past couple of years, it has built a dedicated TPU manufacturing facility for films in Ringwood, complete with automation equipment. The capacity for its Krystalgran pellet and Krystalflex film TPU products has increased as a result.
Attendees at the event included local politicians, who were given a tour of the facility. A 2022 McLaren 765LT Spider, complete with paint protection film, was on display.
“Demand for surface protection solutions, and specifically for paint protection films, has accelerated in the past few years,” said Trent Shidaker, Huntsman’s global director of marketing for elastomers. “Once solely employed in the luxury vehicle market, films are now used to protect mainstream vehicle makes and models from chips, scuffs, scrapes and UV weathering. It’s an exciting time to be in this sector and our recent investments reflect our commitment to the market and our customers.”
