IAC Group North America is permanently laying off 93 employees in Greencastle, Ind. starting July 23 "due to unforeseen circumstances" in its customer demand and release schedules.
"We find it necessary to react to our customer's plans by pulling our WARN [Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification] ahead and announcing layoffs which will now occur in the month of July," IAC said in an emailed statement to Plastics News.
"We do this in an effort to provide as much advanced notice as possible for our employees," the statement said. "IAC Group management will continue to work closely with the local union and affected employees to support them and their families through this process."
The eliminated positions include vaccum forming, assembly and other operators, janitors, and maintenance and tooling journeymen among others, May 25 WARN notice said.
UAW local 2382 President Jason Waller said in a May 6 report by WRTV Indianapolis that IAC is expected to lay off more than 300 employees, with the first phase starting in August, another in October and again in December.
"And that we would be left with a few small parts and some service work, which would be 65 people approximately left in the plant out of about 400 that we have now," Waller said in the report.
More than 75 employees were already permanently laid off due to production changes earlier this year, he added.
IAC said it had no additional information to share with Plastics News about the total number of layoffs.
