Local and state fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a large fire April 14 at plastic and steel pipe maker Rovanco Piping Systems Inc., in Joliet, Ill.
The Troy Fire Protection District said in a news release that one firefighter was injured and taken to a hospital during the blaze, but no civilians were injured. Local media said the injury occurred when a roof collapsed.
The company's website said it supplies foam pre-insulated piping, as well as cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) and high density PE pipes, stainless steel pipe and carrier pipe with polyisocyanurate foam.
The website said Rovanco has three manufacturing plants totaling 150,000 square feet of space, spread over 20 acres.
Firefighters said the fire started at 4 a.m. and was detected by two employees as they arrived for work. Fire crews remained on the scene at mid-morning.
A report from Fox 32 News in Chicago said firefighters arrived to find heavy flames coming through the side of the building and the roof.
It said the blaze drew more than 25 fire vehicles, with the smoke plume large enough to show up on weather radar.
