Marlboro, N.J. — Commercial packaging manufacturer International Cushioning Co. LLC is opening a facility in Fremont, Ohio, that had a previous life as a plastics factory.
The company invested $3.6 million in the factory, which formerly housed industrial blow molder Fremont Plastic Products Inc.
Marlboro-based ICC announced plans to reopen the factory in July. Earlier this month, the Ohio Rail Development Commission approved a $100,000 grant to help the Fremont plant receive rail shipments from ICC's North Carolina plant and manufacture polyethylene foam.
ICC will also produce foam roll stock, construction materials, corner board and bubble wrap at the new plant, which will employ 75.
Fremont Plastic Products closed the plant in 2018, putting about 220 people out of work. Marlboro-based ICC said Fremont will serve customers in Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin.
"We believe that Fremont has presented us with a very business friendly environment and a true partner in helping us make the new operation a success," owner and President Buddy Bussey said in a news release.
In addition to Marlboro and Fremont, ICC also has plants in Hickory, N.C.; Hutchinson, Texas; and Kentland, Ind.
