Cranberry Township, Pa.-based IPEG Inc. acquired Phoenix Systems Corp., in Tustin, Calif., to expand the material-handling products line of Conair Group, its auxiliary equipment subsidiary.
Phoenix Systems supplies high-volume conveying systems for plastic pellets and powders to processors in a variety of markets, including building materials, packaging and compounding. The company's customers include CertainTeed, Variform, Peninsula Packaging, 3M, Knott's Berry Farm and Conair.
Phoenix Systems has collaborated with Conair on equipment and technology for conveying powder and unloading rail cars for more than 20 years, according to a news release about the acquisition.
Terms of the deal, which closed Dec. 21, were not disclosed.
IPEG President Kirk Winstead said the acquisition bolsters Conair's bulk material-handling capabilities, particularly to serve customers in industries like packaging that consume high volumes of material.
"With that, we also acquire the applications knowledge and intellectual property, which will allow us to more easily develop new products and extend the line further," Winstead said.
Leroy Johnson, former owner of Phoenix Systems, said IPEG's acquisition of the business is fitting after a "very successful" working relationship for so many years.
"Conair's emphasis on excellence in customer service and satisfaction aligned closely with my belief that putting the customer first builds strong and loyal customer relationships," Johnson said. "As I considered retirement, it was a natural progression to transition my products into the Conair brand."
Some of those Phoenix Systems products are used in green manufacturing projects, according to an online history that says the company designed and constructed a high density polyethylene recycling plant in Tulsa, Okla., in 1991 as part of a venture by Phillips Petroleum.
In addition to Conair, IPEG subsidiaries include Pelletron Corp., a manufacturer of pneumatic resin conveying systems acquired in 2017, and Thermal Care Inc., a manufacturer of process cooling equipment acquired in 2013.
IPEG also bought Republic Machines Inc., a single-shaft shredder manufacturing operation, in 2013.
