As it approaches its 40th anniversary, materials firm JEG Inc. has added a supply partner.
Westerville, Ohio-based JEG recently reached a deal with APG Colors & Additives of Belton, S.C., under which APG will make JEG's color concentrates on a tolling basis. JEG already had similar deals in place with Canada Colors & Chemicals (CCC) of Toronto and Starco Inc. of Pointe-aux-Trembles, Quebec, near Montreal.
In a phone interview, JEG founder and president John Gibson said working with APG "fills a void for us by providing us with U.S. production." JEG has worked with toll producers throughout its history. "We've always thought that was the best way for us to operate," Gibson added.
JEG operates a sales office in Westerville as well as a warehouse in Obetz, Ohio, near Columbus. Gibson said the firm's largest end markets are extruded products such as sheet, profile, conduit and pipe.
In January, JEG will celebrate its 40th anniversary. The Gibson family has a long business history which dates back to the 1840s, when its first members arrived in Cincinnati from England and founded Gibson & Co. That firm endures today as Gibson Greetings Co., a maker of greeting cards.
John Gibson entered the plastics market in 1975 as a sales rep for plastics processor Pawnee Plastics. He later worked for materials firms Reed Plastics and Plastics Color Corp. before founding JEG in 1985. Gibson's father, also named John, had worked in plastics as a sales rep for products divisions of 3M and Mobil Oil.
"We're very proud that we've been able to reach this milestone," Gibson said.
