Kiefel Packaging has re-invented the rigid plastic egg carton to begin using 100 percent post-consumer recycled PET.
Kiefel said the tray is “of similar or even better quality” compared to those made of virgin polystyrene or PET and the company says it requires no concessions on either functionality and mechanical strength.
To achieve this, Kiefel has combined its new premium flatbed tooling with its latest KMD thermoforming machine to develop a “significantly streamlined” process.
Kiefel will display the egg tray, as well as the Speedformer KMD 78.2 at K 2019 in October in Düsseldorf, Germany, at Hall 3, Booth D70.
The German thermoforming specialist will also offer support for “more drastic material changes," such as a switch to paper, pulp or plant-based materials like PHA or PEF during the show.
