Knowlton Development Corp. Inc. is buying a makeup packaging maker in Italy in a move the company said will help provide additional regional service.
Longueuil, Quebec-based Knowlton, which also goes by kdc/one, creates beauty, personal and home care products that other companies market as their own.
Buying Laffon srl, located north of Milan, expands Knowlton's manufacturing footprint at a time customers are looking for partners closer to home. Laffon provides injection molding, decoration, assembly and printing services.
"The addition of Laffon to our business means we can now provide our cosmetics clients with a comprehensive, regional end-to-end solution in Europe, enhancing the agility of our services. Moreover, Laffon aligns perfectly with our commitment to offering highly sustainable packaging solutions," said Denis Maurin, president of sales and innovation at HCT by kdc/one.
Knowlton and HCT Group, which also designed, formulated and manufactured beauty and personal care products, merged in 2019. HTC by kdc/one includes a packaging division that designs and manufactures cosmetics packaging. There also is a division that formulates products contained in those packages.
"This is an ideal move for both parties, as we merge our best-in-class packaging capabilities in the cosmetics industry with kdc/one's comprehensive service offering to the beauty sector," Laffon Managing Director Luca Rossi said in a statement.
The company's facility is in Venegono Inferiore, near Milan, and makes packaging for cosmetics including foundation, blush and eyeshadow. Laffon was founded in 1982.
Laffon includes about 43,000 square feet of space in two buildings, one that includes injection molding, decoration and assembly and the other for warehouse space, according to the company's website.
