Detroit — It's been a year of big changes in the world, so it shouldn't be a surprise that our social media habits may have changed, too. Twitter — now named X — saw the number of its active users drop off throughout 2024, prompting interest in competitive microblogging platforms such as Threads — backed by Facebook and Instagram owner Meta — and the startup Bluesky.
LinkedIn has managed to maintain its status as the go-to platform for businesses, while the video-sharing app TikTok's future remains uncertain.
Plastics News has been working to remain available across most of the social media platforms. That includes our recent foray onto Bluesky, which launched in February 2024 and had more than 26 million users by the end of 2024.
Even if you're not interested in exploring new platforms, Plastics News' annual list of the most interesting social media accounts in plastics can help you sort through all those platforms. The next roundup is scheduled to run Feb. 10. We've included entries from LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Substack and podcasts in the past, and now we're looking for candidates for 2025. You can head to www.plasticsnews.com/social to fill out a nomination form.
