Chroma Color Corp. has acquired Color Resource LLC, a maker of color concentrates based in Leominster, Mass.
Color Resource makes materials for the telecommunications, fiber, building, electronics, and specialty wire markets, officials with Chroma in McHenry, Ill., said in a June 28 news release. They added that the acquisition "significantly expands" Chroma's product offerings in wire and cable and other key market segments.
Founded in 2009, Color Resource makes stock and custom color concentrates that meet industry specifications for PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene and EVA resins. Color Resource's concentrates often include additives for UV protection, anti-microbials, flame retardancy, anti-static, or chemical resistance.
"We are pleased to now offer our current wire and cable customers with new moisture-cure options for emerging markets such as low voltage, automotive, and appliance," Chroma President Howard DeMonte said in the release.
He added that since Color Resource's plant in Leominster near a Chroma plant there, the blending of the firm "will be easier on our team members and seamless for our customers."
Chroma CEO Tom Bolger added that the acquisition "brings other technologies and know-how to Chroma, especially for our customers in the wire and cable market."
The Color Resource deal is the third in the last 18 months for Chroma and the firm's fifth since mid-2018, when investment firm Arsenal Capital Partners combined Chroma with materials firms Carolina Color, Breen Color Concentrates and Breen's Hudson Color unit.
In January 2020, Chroma bought fellow color concentrate maker Plastics Color Corp. of Calumet City, Ill. Chroma then added compounder and dye maker Epolin Chemicals LLC of Newark, N.J., in June 2020.
