Materials Sciences LLC is expanding operations in Greenville, S.C., with a $4.2 million investment that is expected to create 34 new jobs.
The Horsham, Pa.-based company, which designs, develops and manufactures custom composite materials for the commercial, energy and defense sectors, is expanding into a second manufacturing plant in Greenville that will allow the company to continue to grow its production operations.
The additional facility in Greenville will give Materials Sciences, or MCS, the space to bring in larger manufacturing equipment that can be used to increase product size and throughput, according to a Jan. 30 news release from the Greenville Area Development Corp.
The project is expected to be completed by August.
MSC's composite materials are used in a variety of consumer products applications such as the Bianchi racing bicycles and Wilson tennis rackets, among others.
Tony Caiazzo Jr., vice president of manufacturing at MCS, praised the growth and transformation of upstate South Carolina, the westernmost part of the state, over the last six years.
"In that same time period, the upstate has helped Materials Sciences LLC as a small business expand our facilities, composite manufacturing capabilities and employee base at an extraordinary rate," Caiazzo said in a statement. "We're excited for the bright future of our company as part of a community that continues to foster innovation and economic development."
