Looking to expand its capabilities, sealing components maker Material & Design Solutions LLC (MDS) of Houston has acquired the assets of precision machining shop APS Plastics and Manufacturing LP.
Tomball, Texas-based APS Plastics manufactures complex components, mainly for the electronics, oil and gas, food-processing and medical markets. The assets include six computer numerically controlled (CNC) lathes and five CNC mills, computerized screw machines and electronic inspection instruments.
With the new equipment, "MDS can now go from resin to finished components with the ability to perform turning and complex milling operations," Matt Jorgensen, general manager of MDS' machining center, said in a May 11 news release.
MDS molds stock shapes and sealing components using PEEK and other high-end engineered thermoplastics. The company's products are used in high-pressure, high temperature and corrosive environments in the oil and gas and semiconductors markets.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
