Newburyport, Mass.-based medical device manufacturer UFP Technologies Inc. has acquired Galway, Ireland-based Advant Medical Ltd., a medical component and product manufacturer.
The deal gives UFP in-house injection molding expertise.
"We are pleased to be joining forces with Advant, our third major acquisition in six months," R. Jeffrey Bailly, chairman and CEO of UFP, said in a March 17 news release.
Advant Medical makes Class I, II, and III medical devices and packaging in Ireland and Costa Rica and has a manufacturing partner in Mexico.
"Advant brings us medical product development and clean room manufacturing in Ireland, a key strategic geography to which we annually ship millions of dollars' worth of product," Bailly said. "It also adds in-house injection molding expertise to our list of capabilities. And it brings new customer relationships, product development opportunities, and a veteran team of professionals to UFP."
UFP also purchased Atlanta-based medical sheet and cover maker DAS Medical Inc. early this year. Last fall, it bought medical packaging maker Contech Medical.
"Advant complements our recent acquisition of Contech Medical, strengthening our position in the growing catheter and guidewire packaging space and providing opportunities to share best practices," Bailly added.
UFP did not immediately respond to inquiry for comment by Plastics News.
"With a shared commitment to growing within the Costa Rican, Irish and European MedTech sectors, the Advant team looks forward to building on our combined strengths and continuing to offer our customers world-class medical device contract manufacturing," Bob DiPetrillo, CEO of Advant Medical, said in the release.
"The addition of UFP's development engineers, product lines and resources expands our current portfolio and strengthens our ability to provide innovative solutions and services," DiPetrillo added.
UFP manufactures components, subassemblies, products, and packaging primarily for the medical market. DAS designs, develops and produces of single-use surgical equipment covers, robotic draping systems and fluid control pouches.
