A new brand of organic tea capsules launched by Melitta Single Portions has taken transparency to a new level.
The Avoury capsules are made from a certified circular PP from Sabic’s Trucircle portfolio, which is based on feedstock derived from plastic waste, specifically for use in the Avoury One tea machine. The material is also completely transparent, allowing consumers to see what is inside the capsule.
Sabic’s Trucircle copolymer solution for the new packaging is recyclable, lightweight and functional, preserving the quality of the tea leaves while meeting all food safety regulations required for food and beverage products. The packaging is heat resistant to protect the tea leaves, whilst enabling the tea to freely develop its flavors and nuance.
Avoury has been one of the first companies to adopt the Trucircle solutions developed by Sabic to support the company’s ambition to develop more circular plastics.
Holger Feldmann, CEO at Melitta Single Portions, said the company sought to offer an ‘exceptional tea experience’ and to prove that it was possible for resources to be used responsibly. “With Avoury tea capsules, we have done both”, he said.
The Trucircle portfolio spans design for recyclability, mechanically recycled products, certified circular products from feedstock recycling of used plastic and certified renewables products from bio-based feedstock.
Since the launch in late 2019, Sabic has seen demand for its Trucircle portfolio soar from businesses seeking solutions that are commercially viable while also more addressing the need for a more circular, transparent and sustainable economy for plastics.
