Michigan-based injection molder and toolmaker Summit Plastic Molding Inc. is investing $1.6 million to expand its 100,000-square-foot Horizon City, Texas, facility.
The company credits growing demand from medical, defense and automotive customers.
The 25,000-square-foot expansion will add warehouse space to make room for additional molding presses, Nick Gedeon, sales manager at Summit, told Plastics News.
"We are also increasing our capabilities to our tool shop that is located here," Gedeon said. "We are adding CNC machines and EDM machines to support building plastic injection molding tooling in-house."
Summit began construction on the expansion in August, he added. The space is expected to be operational by February or March of 2022.
"COVID has caused ... delays, but we're progressing nicely," Gedeon said.
Summit is based in Shelby Township, Mich., near Detroit.
