Employees at Milacron Plastics Technologies Group LLC in McPherson, Kan., overwhelmingly rejected a chance to join the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) AFL-CIO.
Eight-four of the 94 employees eligible to vote on March 15 at the East First Street plant cast ballots on a resolution.
The results were 23 votes in favor of joining the IAMAW union and 61 against, according to a website post by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
IAMAW officials did not return calls or emails seeking comment.
The McPherson plant, which Milacron acquired in 1998, makes wear parts including screws. All full-time and regular part-time production and maintenance employees in McPherson were eligible to vote, including polishers, material handlers, quality control specialists, inspectors, machinists, welders, grinders, gearbox mechanics and maintenance workers.
The vote excluded office and clerical employees, professional employees, guards and supervisors.
The United Steel Workers already have a union at the McPherson facility, but the IAMAW is not there, an IAMAW representative had told a local media outlet.
Milacron is part of the Molding Technology Solutions (MTS) unit of machine builder Hillenbrand Inc., which had announced in February that it planned to cut its workforce by about 5 percent in its injection molding and hot runner equipment unit to shrink its footprint in the face of a tough market.
