Additives maker Nanox Technology LLC has received direct food contact approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Food and Drug Administration for its silver-based antimicrobial materials.
In a news release, Nanox officials said the new product offers protection against microorganisms that can cause disease and spoilage in food products and packaging. They added that the materials are specifically formulated to prevent the growth of bacteria, viruses and fungi, providing a long-lasting antimicrobial barrier.
EPA approval "is a crucial step in the registration of an antimicrobial product," officials said. "The EPA ensures that the product meets rigorous safety and efficacy standards before allowing it to be sold and used."
FDA approval for direct food contact "further emphasizes the safety and effectiveness of the product," they added. Direct food contact approval means that the product can be used in food packaging and does not pose a risk to human health.
"This registration is an essential step in ensuring that our products are safe for consumers and meet the highest standards of antimicrobial protection," CEO Gustavo Pagotto said. "We believe that our product will revolutionize the way we protect our food products and packaging from harmful microorganisms."
