Flowery Branch, Ga.-based health care, industrial and animal care product supplier Global Resources International will invest $9.5 million to open a medical manufacturing company in Dothan, Ala., to expand its local manufacturing capabilities.
The company, Advanced Product Solutions, will bring 70 jobs to the area and "will anchor GRI's family of companies in the manufacturing of engineered fabrics, personal protective equipment and injection molded medical products in the United States," an Oct. 5 release said.
In the near future, the release said, Advanced Product Solutions will expand to include injection molding of non-medical products and production of absorbent underpads for both human and animal health market.
Ashford, Ala.-based Eastern Technologies Inc., a GRI subsidiary which produces protective gear for workers in industries including nuclear power, chemicals and defense, will provide "daily operational oversight" over the newly formed Advanced Product Solutions, it said.
"We are looking forward to this enhancement of our U.S.-based manufacturing to the greater Dothan area, and we're looking forward to the future growth," Mark Fellows, vice president of ETI and Advanced Product Solutions said in the release.
The building that will house the new company has a plastics industry connection: it formerly was a Nypro Inc. molding plant. Jabil Circuit Inc., which bought Nypro in 2013, closed the Dothan plant in 2017. At the time, the plant had 100 full-time and 50 part-time workers.
Advanced Product Solutions and GTI did not immediately respond to inquiries for comment by Plastics News.
