An Ohio electronics and lighting company is eyeing a new market by creating a new business to make lightweight composite campers and trailers.
U.S. Lighting Group Inc. of Euclid has formed Cortes Campers to make the recreational vehicles using biaxial aluminuminized fiberglass composites with a honeycomb composite core along with carbon fiber. The final trailer is up to 50 percent lighter than existing competitors.
CEO Paul Spivak said in a news release that he saw an untapped opportunity to make the vehicles with high quality materials and without wood.
"The new RVs will be handcrafted from aerospace materials for exceptional weight, strength and thermal properties. The exterior design features the Cortes Campers honeycomb monoshell core," Spivak said in the release.
The company says it has patents pending for its construction system.
U.S. Lighting originally had taken its concept to existing RV makers, but then decided to create its own business to make and sell them through its own dealer network with exclusive distributors.
"Cortes Campers is well underway with its new designs and fabrication for three styles of its travel trailers, a truck camper, and off-road tear drop camper," Spivak said in the release. "Having Cortes Campers join the U.S. Lighting Group in the future will have positive benefits for the US Lighting Group stakeholders and a great opportunity to grow the business."
