Nexeo Plastics LLC will distribute specialty biopolymers for BioLogiQ in North America.
In an April 13 news release, officials with Nexeo in The Woodlands, Texas, said that the materials serve companies that want to incorporate high-quality, sustainable materials into their manufactured products.
Materials made by Idaho Falls, Idaho-based BioLogiQ to be distributed by Nexeo include the BioBlend product line. BioBlend combines NuPlastiQ biopolymer with polyolefins and compostable solutions for blown and cast film extrusion, blow and injection molding and thin-wall thermoforming.
"We are very pleased to join the Nexeo Plastics partner family and bring more sustainable solutions to the plastics industry," BioLogiQ founder and CEO Brad LaPray said in the release.
Under the agreement, Nexeo will carry and distribute BioLogiQ products in the U.S. and Canada and will provide logistics in Mexico for the BioBlend XP, XD and BC product lines. Custom products to fit niche or specialty requirements can be developed and produced through BioLogiQ's compounding expertise, officials said.
NuPlastiQ is a thermoplastic starch created from potatoes or other plant-based renewable feedstocks. The material provides low crystallinity and high modulus strength, officials said, making plastic items potentially stronger than those made with pure polyolefins.
NuPlastiQ biopolymers offer a stable shelf life and can enhance strength even with reduced thickness, officials said. The materials also are more beneficial to the environment, they added.
Nexeo President and CEO Shawn Williams said that BioLogiQ's materials "deliver performance while addressing the ongoing calls of sustainability, biofriendly and energy-saving characteristics of today's modern manufacturers and consumers."
Nexeo is a leading global plastics supplier, distributing resins and compounds in North America, Europe and Asia for more than 30 suppliers.
