Bales Metal Surface Solutions of Downers Grove, Ill., does its best to create a thriving, inclusive workplace where its employees feel valued, inspired and empowered. Its purpose is "helping people achieve success," and core values are work, win, play, repeat.
The company, which applies proprietary coatings and finishes to molds to prevent corrosion, abrasion and wear, has built a culture that prioritizes work-life balance, continuous learning and a sense of belonging.
Many of Bales' employees have been with the company for more than a decade.
"At Bales, they treat every employee as if they are the most important customer in the world," according to one employee, Jaime, on the company's website.
"My favorite part of my job is working with likeminded team members who work together to accomplish goals," says another employee, Dan. "And to see a part complete that I plated."
"The best part of working at Bales is the team and family atmosphere," says Angelo.
And John: "It makes me proud watching the material ship in and out every day and know that I was a part of that finished product."
The company was founded in 1978 by Steve and Mike Bales, who both worked out of a small residential garage. It's now led by Steve's daughters, President Stacey Bales and Vice President Sara Mortensen.
"Following her father's example, Stacey is passionate about employee appreciation. She always considers how her decisions will affect not only the company but its team members. Stacey also loves the variety of materials and parts that Bales services, which keeps her days exciting," says Stacey Bales' bio on the company website.
Mortensen's bio says she enjoys enhancing the company's marketing efforts and is most proud of how the team stands behind their work.
