North American Specialty Laminations LLC of Osseo, Wis., is growing quickly, with its latest acquisition providing its fifth plant, a presence in California and better access to markets in Mexico.
NASL announced March 23 it has purchased Diversified Manufacturing of California Inc., dba Profile Wrapping, in Vista, Calif. DMOC applies acrylic exterior laminates to extruded PVC profiles and also works with veneers made of various materials.
Profile wrapping involves applying decorative materials such as film, laminate or foil to profiles and allows for intricate shapes, including those with angles or curves.
NASL is a portfolio company of private equity investment firm Building Industry Partners of Boston. NASL's markets include flooring, windows, doors, cabinetry, specialty millwork and case-good markets. It has made three previous acquisitions and opened one greenfield facility in less than two years.
BIP formed NASL in August 2021 out of its purchase of SourceCut Industries Inc. in Osseo. That October, NASL bought Haida Industries LLC in Sparks, Nev.
In September 2022, NASL announced it was opening a 57,000-square-foot production facility in Roanoke, Va. In October, NASL acquired sister companies Midwest Prefinishing Inc. and Premium Prefinished Products Inc., both of Middleton, Wis.
Citing the U.S. housing market's difficulties and labor constraints, NASL CEO Doug Rende noted that acquiring DMOC will extend his firm's capacity and geographic reach. He said NASL will continue looking for investment opportunities in fabrication.
"It's critical that we continue to shorten the supply chain," Rende said in a news release.
DMOC founder and CEO Thane Rivers will now serve as NASL's senior vice president of lamination operations. Rivers founded DMOC about 27 years ago. NASL, which now employs more than 190, said it plans to keep all of DMOC's employees.
