Polyethylene maker Nova Chemicals Corp. has launched a new mechanically recycled high density PE grade made from milk jugs that the company says is Food and Drug Administration-complaint for food-contact resin.
The resins in Calgary-based Nova's Syndigo portfolio are made up of a range of lower-emission recycled PE, sold by the Nova Circular Solutions business line that launched in February.
Syndigo rPE-0860-FCm as the new resin is branded, is intended as an alternative for converters and brand owners striving to move towards more sustainable products and packaging.
"By adding the first food-contact [recycled PE to the ] portfolio, we're supporting our mission of increasing rPE usage to demonstrate our commitment to eliminating plastic waste and reducing the carbon footprint of plastic packaging," Alan Schrob, Nova director of mechanical recycling, said in a news release.
The Syndigo portfolio also currently consists of three other resins, which can be used in a variety of non-food contact applications from e-commerce mailers to shrink to industrial films.
