Calgary, Alberta — Nova Chemicals Corp. and Enerkem Inc. are collaborating on chemical recycling technology.
The companies announced May 11 that they will develop technology to recycle “non-compostable and non-recyclable municipal waste” into ethylene.
Montreal-based Enerkem has already developed commercial-scale technology to turn waste into methanol and ethanol. Working with Calgary-based Nova, the companies will research commercial-scale technology to transform hard-to-recycle municipal waste into ethylene, the companies said in the release.
“This research is one of the ways Nova Chemicals is innovating to recapture the value of plastic products and create a world free of plastic waste,” Nova President and CEO Todd Karran said in the release.
