Nursery Supplies Inc., a Kissimmee, Fla.-based maker of horticulture containers and trays, is closing its facility in Mogadore, Ohio, permanently laying off 62 employees.
"Changing business needs require us to close this facility," the company said in a May 29 worker adjustment and retraining notice to the Ohio Department of Job and Family services.
The Mogadore business, which is known as Summit Plastics Inc., was founded in 1954.
Nursery Supplies will close its facility on Aug. 30, "when production operations will stop," the letter said. "There will be a phased down reduction through Dec. 1" for remaining employees.
The company gave workers a 60-day notification on May 26, the letter added. The facility's employees have no applicable bumping rights.
Mill Point Capital LLC, purchased Nursery Supplies Inc. from Lincolnshire Management Inc. in April. The terms of that deal were not disclosed.
Nursery Supplies has plants in Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas, plus distribution facilities in Oregon and California. Its capabilities include blow molding, pressure forming, injection molding and vacuum forming. It recycles more than 40 million pounds of plastic annually.
As Summit Plastics, the Mogadore plant was originally the thermoforming division of Vaughan's Seed Co.
Two company executives, Norman Belliveau and Charles Snyder, bought Summit Plastics in 1997. In 1999 they formed a joint venture with Desch Plantpak BV of Waalwijk, the Netherlands.
Lincolnshire Management bought Summit Plastics and Desch Plantpak in 2006 and combined Summit with Nursery Supplies, which it already owned. Lincolnshire still owns Desch Plantpak.
