Clinton, Mass.-based NyproMold Inc. has invested $5.2 million to expand its Gurnee, Ill., facility to meet demand for drug delivery devices and diagnostic products.
The company spent two years on the expansion, Ghassan Aswad, senior business unit director at NyproMold, told Plastics News in an emailed statement.
The 4,600-square-foot expansion includes $4 million in mold making equipment.
While building out the space, NyproMold relocated some operations to other facilities to mitigate disruptions to customers, Aswad said.
The company has seen a year-over-year increase in health care customer demand for plastic injection molds, he said.
"The consistent rise in health care requirements across the global population, particularly due to an aging demographic, has generated a substantial surge in demand," he said.
NyproMold has also been working with customers to meet needs for developing health technology, Aswad added.
"Remaining competitive within the high-cavitation, plastic injection mold making [for the] health care sector extends beyond maintaining our current capabilities," Aswad said. "It necessitates expansion to meet forthcoming demands."
"With the expanded facilities … the company is well positioned to serve its clients better and strengthen its position as a leader in the precision plastic injection mold manufacturing industry," a statement from NyproMold said.
NyproMold is No. 11 in the most recent Plastics News ranking of North American mold makers with an estimated $72 million in sales.
