Two Ohio firms will work together to make ventilators needed during the COVID-19 crisis.
Laszeray Technology LLC of North Royalton will make the ventilators for Columbus-based Stark Industries LLC. Stark was one of eight U.S. firms awarded a license to make Vital ventilators that were designed by the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.
The project "is focusing on improving COVID-19 patient outcomes and saving lives," officials said in a news release.
The Vital ventilator's purpose is designed for more acutely ill patients, they added. The unit will meet the demands of aggressive ventilator support in clinical states including hypercapnia and hypoxia. The name is an acronym for Ventilator Intervention Technology Accessible Locally.
The ventilator "exemplifies a dynamic system scalable for significant production to support supply shortages with a cost-effective solution," Laszeray President and Chief Operating Officer Ty Shirley said in the release.
