Reusable packaging maker Orbis Corp. is expanding through the purchase of Creative Techniques Inc., a Michigan-based maker of custom plastics packaging.
CTI, of Orion Township, makes a variety of products including trays, container dunnage, rack dunnage, pallets and kitting trays. Processes include injection molding and structural foam molding as well as prototyping.
Along with acquiring assets of CTI, Orbis also gains a 60,000-square-foot manufacturing site as well as 22,000 square feet of warehouse space, the Oconomowoc, Wis.-based company said. About 110 workers will join Orbis.
The acquisition follows a move by Orbis in March to expand its production footprint when it signed an agreement to take over more than 400,000 square feet of manufacturing space at a former Rubbermaid plant in Greenville, Texas.
"What excites me about this acquisition is the engineering excellence and solutions-focused approach CTI brings to its customers," Orbis President Norm Kukuk said in a statement. "They create tremendous value in their front-end processes, tooling development, rapid prototyping capabilities and ultimately the high-quality packaging they deliver to customers."
CTI, which serves the automotive industry from the company's Detroit-area location, has a "proven track record" of providing innovative products and services to customers, Orbis said.
"CTI is strongly aligned with Orbis in its focus on sustainability, customer relationships, innovation and supply chain expertise," said Chris Drees, CEO of Orbis parent company Menasha Corp., in a statement.
Orbis makes returnable plastic totes, bulk containers, pallets, dunnage and metal racks at 12 plants in the United States. The company also has 30 service centers in North America and Europe.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
