A South Carolina PET strapping manufacturer is investing more than $10 million to expand and create an estimated 20 new jobs.
Samuel Packaging Systems Group's $11.5 million project in Fort Mill will involve upgrading production lines as well as the purchase of a new PET strand line, according to the South Carolina Department of Commerce.
Samuel Packaging's 203,300-square-foot facility opened in 1996, and the expansion is slated to be finished during the first quarter of next year.
The company began production with 25 workers and two production lines and has grown to now employ more than 90 jobs with four lines, the company said.
"Samuel is a global provider of plastic strapping and invests where we have success. The support of York County is a great example of a partnership that creates success," President Cy Slifka said in a statement.
Samuel Packaging is a division of Samuel, Son & Co. (USA) Inc., a maker of packaging equipment and consumables. This includes machine systems and machines for the placement of strapping. The company also manufacturers shrink film equipment and film.
"It is always good news for our county and our state when one of our existing manufacturers expands," York County Council Chairwoman Christi Cox said in a statement.
