A Pennsylvania PET food tray company is expanding into North Carolina with a new manufacturing facility that will employ 80 and cost nearly $27 million.
Clearly Clean Products LLC, of Frackville, Pa., will receive $344,171 in financial aid from the city of Greensboro, N.C., to create a new manufacturing site at along McConnell Road.
Greensboro City Council approved the incentive package during a June 4 meeting following a brief explanation of the project by Economic Development Manager Marshall Yandle and no discussion by council members.
"This new facility will allow us to increase our commitment to sustainability as we continue to expand the ability of our customers to participate in a nature-friendly circular economy," Clearly Clean CEO Jimmy Herring said in a statement.
"The average wage for the new full-time positions will be approximately $58,876 with additional benefits and none of the 80 jobs will pay below $18 per hour. The project is expected to generate public benefit to the city of Greensboro by positively impacting the property and sales tax revenues in addition to increasing business prospects for the city and surrounding area," information given to City Council states.
Clearly Clean expects all 80 new jobs will be created by the end of 2027, and the city grant will expire if the jobs are not created by Dec. 31, 2028.
"Clearly Clean's commitment to sustainability aligns with our values of creating a robust manufacturing economy and a healthier environment for all who call our state home," North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said in an announcement about the project made by the state Department of Commerce.
The company also is receiving a $200,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund operated by the state and tied to the investment being made by Clearly Clean.
The One North Carolina Fund, administered by the state commerce department, describes itself as "a discretionary cash-grant program that allows the Governor to respond quickly to competitive job-creation projects."
The new site will nearly double Clearly Clean's capacity and is aimed at meeting demand for poultry customers.
