Charlotte, N.C. — Piedmont Plastics Inc., a wholesale distributor of plastic sheet, rod, tube and film, has expanded to the upper Midwest through the acquisition of Empire Plastics Inc. of Sioux Falls, S.D.
Terms of the deal, which was announced Sept. 30, were not disclosed.
Empire Plastics, a 28-year-old company, will become Piedmont's 50th branch location, and all Empire employees will join Piedmont. Former Empire owner Doug Edwards will remain on board through the end of 2020 to assist with the transition.
"We are excited and grateful to have the Empire Plastics Inc. family join ours," Piedmont President Tyler Booth said in a news release. "This part of the country is a natural extension of our growing branch network and we feel that Empire Plastics is a great fit both culturally and strategically."
Piedmont is based in Charlotte. Founded in 1968, it stocks and distributes brand-name acrylic sheet, polycarbonate, foam boards, film, flexible tubing and adhesive-backed vinyl, among others materials, for the marine, transportation, optical display and electric sign markets. The business also offers film conversion services like precision-cutting and laminating.
