Cedar Point, N.C. — Plasdan USA will demonstrate a three-material molding system with partner Nissei America Inc. (W2401) that enables the production of complex assemblies in a single cycle.
Founded 35 years ago, Marinha Grande, Portugal-based Plasdan manufactures multimaterial and in-mold assembly systems for injection molders that can reduce costs and labor while improving part quality.
The company is represented in the United States by Cedar Point-based Fordham Plastics.
Plasdan's advanced manufacturing system uses two add-on Ergoline injection units and in-mold robotics.
In the demonstration, the system will automate the assembly of three components for a lidded container within a single molding cycle on a Nissei NEX360V-100LE all-electric press.
The system consolidates the process into one machine, bypasses both the need for multiple machines and manual assembly, which in turn reduces machine time, labor, energy consumption and factory footprint.
The end-to-end automated cycle eliminates work-in-process inventory and speeds up the production cycle with less capital tied up in unfinished goods, a company news release said.
"This system represents a significant leap forward in injection molding technology," Plasdan CEO Paulo Silva said in the news release. "It delivers efficiency gains and productivity improvements, crucial for manufacturers aiming to optimize their operations and minimize environmental impact. The single-machine approach not only cuts operational costs but also supports the industry's move towards more sustainable practices."
At NPE2024, Plasdan's technical team will be at the Nissei America booth to talk specifications, benefits and integration.
