Coca-Cola Co. is using free bike and electric scooter rides to help promote plastic bottle recycling.
In a new promotion unveiled Aug. 25, the beverage company said it is working with scooter company Lime to offer more than 40,000 free rides to people pledging to recycle 13.2-ounce Coke bottles already made from recycled PET.
Those who buy the Sip Sized Coca-Cola bottle and pledge to recycle the container at CokePlayToWin.com/endlesslyrefreshing receive a promo code via email. The codes are first-come, first-served and are good for a free 10-minute bike or scooter ride through Lime's app.
"The 13.2oz, 100 percent [recycled PET] Coca-Cola bottle is just one of the many innovations the company has introduced to make important advancements towards a World Without Waste," said Brandan Strickland, brand director of Coca-Cola trademark at the Coca-Cola North America operating unit, in a statement. "Now, with Sip Sized, 100 percent rPET Coca-Cola bottles available at convenience stores across the nation, we're encouraging people to go the extra mile to commit to recycling our products again and again."
The 100-percent rPET distinction does not include the bottle's cap or label, Coke said.
