SI Group Inc. is relocating its global headquarters in Schenectady, N.Y., to a building less than 5 miles away.
The plastics additive supplier announced Dec. 20 it will occupy a floor in an LEED Gold certified building that offers a full-service cafeteria, fitness center, advanced IT infrastructure and security, direct access to walking and bike paths, and close proximity to other businesses and restaurants.
LEED, which stands Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the rating system used by the U.S. Green Building Council to recognize sustainable building practices.
The 240,000-square-foot building has six floors, each with 40,000 square feet of space. Other occupants include Golub Corp., the parent company of supermarket chains Market 32 and Price Chopper.
The move is expected to happen in the first quarter of 2020. SI Group's research and development labs will move to a separate location. That decision is still being finalized, the company said.
"We're pleased to relocate our headquarter offices to a facility that fits our workforce today and reflects the company's culture and values," David Bradley, president and CEO of SI Group, said in a statement. "The location also allows employees to be part of the Schenectady downtown community."
SI Group first announced it was moving its global headquarters in August, though a location in Schenectady's Capital District had yet to be determined. The company is working with commercial real estate firm CBRE-Albany on the sale of its current property.
Globally, SI Group employs more than 3,000 at more than 30 manufacturing sites. Its product line includes plasticizers, flame retardants, antioxidants and light stabilizers. SI Group also makes process solutions, pharmaceuticals and chemical intermediates.
