Merrimack, N.H. — Plastics Forming Enterprises LLC (PFE), a recycling consultancy firm for plastic packaging and consumer products, has moved to a larger facility in New Hampshire after tripling the number of its employees during the last three years.
The business relocated from Amherst to a 13,000-square-foot facility in Merrimack to increase its capacity and capabilities for performing tests for clients developing PET bottles, thermoformed products and both rigid and flexible packaging using polypropylene and polyethylene.
The larger facility means PFE can conduct a broader range of ISO and ASTM testing to assess how clients' packaging performs in the recycling system all the way from sortation, recycling and reprocessing to end market applications.
PFE also is a technical supporting partner of the Association of Plastics Recyclers, RecyClass, European PET Bottle Platform and How2Recycle.
The expansion is in response to the rapid increase in demand for services in recent years, according to a news release.
The company had been located in Merrimack previously. PFE founder Louis Tacito started the business there in 1984 after he was tasked with developing a PET recycling process for beverage bottles being returned through the newly-implemented state bottle bill system.
Tacito's work on recycling while at Continental Can Co. in Merrimack laid the groundwork for the services PFE would eventually offer clients from around the globe.
"The move is a new chapter for PFE and equips us to continue to support the growing needs of the plastic packaging industry, but it also harkens back to our roots," PFE President Kristi Hansen said. "There's a symbolism about the circularity of bringing the company back home to Continental Blvd. that further reinforces the exciting direction of our growth."
PFE will host a series of open house events for clients and industry partners when it is "reasonably safe for both visitors and staff," the release said.
