Wendy Hoenig was appointed president of the Plastics Pioneers Association on May 4. Hoenig has been a member of PPA for 10 years and previously served as secretary and vice president.
Hoenig is the chief marketing and sales officer at Peak Nanosystems, where she oversees commercializing nanolayer films in optics and capacitors. She also spent 25 years at Dow Chemical Co.
PPA is going into its 75th year, and Hoenig will be working with the board of governors as well as other newly elected officers: Lance Neward, past president; Jeff Mengel, treasurer; and Ashby Rice, secretary.
PPA raises money for grants and scholarships that help students pursuing careers in plastics and materials science. The group also helps maintain the Plastics Collection Library at Syracuse University, and it supports programs such as the Plastivan that cater to school-age children.
Hoenig has a bachelor's degree in material science from Rice University in Houston, and she serves on an advisory board for the Rice engineering school. Hoenig was also in Plastics News' 2018 Women Breaking the Mold.
